Rocks and roots

The trails at Thetford are unusual for mountain bike trails in that they are totally flat. there's some bombholes but that's as much descent as you'll get. Instead they just tempt you to ride round and round until you're knackered! The trails do get overridden and despite the best efforts of the volunteer trail builder (TIMBER) they do get muddy. In the winter we ride west of the B1106 (we call this "Branddon" where there's still plenty of singletrack (this is where Disk till Dawn is held) but no signs. The best place to park for both is shown on the map. This avoids the extortionate charges at the Forest Lodge (at least £10 for a day, none of which goes to trail maintenance) and the more reasonable charges at Brandon Country Park, but is just 50 yds off the trail just before the Beast, and ideal for Brandon too.

Rating: 2, "Worth a ride if you are in the area".
